I never knew that bed bugs were becoming a real problem and can now be found in almost every state. But for those of you who are concerned about this, Democratic Congressman G.K. Butterfield has got your back and your mattress covered. Or, at least, he’s trying to.
Butterfield wants to use $50 million to bite back by inspecting places like hotels and killing the little critters.
Says the Rocky Mount Telegram:
In order to qualify for the funds, states would have to require the inspection of at least 20 percent of all its hotel rooms.
The bill also would expand an existing grant program managed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that provides funds for cockroach and rodent control to be used for bed bug prevention and control.
Right now, our tax dollars are being used to fight two wars and save the economy. Energy costs and health care are rising while people are getting laid off or furloughed. I think it goes without saying that there are better things to spend our money on (school construction or helping homeless veterans, to name just two), but apparently it needs to be said.
Or maybe what you want to say is that you support the idea. If you want to contact Butterfield and share your dissent or approval (though I respectfully disagree with it), click here to send an e-mail or get the phone number for one of his offices.
Be respectful, but be involved. It is your money, after all.
